If there is no setting available withing the application, then no, you can't change the background. I've downloaded various resources like troubleshooting guides, user guides and documents with hope to find this, but it was impossible since it's nowhere specified.
If you have the software installed go to Help and switch to the Search function. Type background to see all the available options related to this term. If the software support it, you will find all the instruction there on how to change it.
Yes, Windows 8.1 already supports this application. On the website of the developer, there is version 7.7 which is compatible with Windows 8.1. Visit the website and download the application. You might need to remove your old version in case you installed one.
It doesn't support 1200DPI scanning because the drivers are not up to date. What should I do?

If there is no updates for your camera or software then it means that there are no actually any updates at all. Kodak always keeps their website update. Best way to fix this issue, is by contacting them. They will provide all the information necessary to settle this inconvenient.
You need to obtain the latest drivers for your device. This is a known error and this is the way to overcome it. Visit the support website and identify your product model then download the necessary driver for your operating system. It's recommended to do a clean install. This means that you should remove the previous driver and software and install a new one.
